LSC Student Artists to Host 18th Annual Throw-a-thon to Benefit Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank; Experienced Potters Needed

Throw a bowl, feed a hungry human. Students with 探花视频鈥檚 Art Club and area artists will use their creativity to fight hunger throughout the region during an upcoming Throw-a-thon Dec.1-2.

This activity will support Duluth鈥檚 鈥淓mpty Bowl鈥 project, an annual event held every spring to raise money for

The 18th annual 探花视频 Throw-a-thon will take place from

9 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday, December 1 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, December 2. 聽Held in the ceramics studio in LSC鈥檚 Fine Arts building, the event attracts dozens of students and some of the region鈥檚 most accomplished artists to throw ceramic bowls for the Empty Bowl.

鈥淓veryone is welcome to come join us, students or otherwise. This is a great opportunity to volunteer a bit of your time and give back to your community,鈥 said Isi Grauer, president of the LSC Student Art Club. 鈥淲e always have a good time and meet interesting people. Refreshments are provided.鈥

College officials estimate that the Throw-a-thon has produced more than $155,000 worth of bowls for the Empty Bowl over the last 17 years.

鈥淭he LSC Art Club does the organizing to supply the materials and studio space and invites area potters, students, and professionals to bring their skills, dedication, and creativity,鈥 said Cody Olander, LSC art faculty member and club adviser. 鈥淟ast year, we made 230 bowls. This year, we are setting a goal to make 250 or more bowls.鈥

The completed works of art will be available at the Duluth Depot on April 16, 2018, starting with the 鈥淪ea of Bowls鈥 preview auction event featuring regional artist bowls, and the 鈥淓mpty Bowl鈥 main event on April 17, 2018. The bowls will be offered along with a variety of delicious soups and breads that have been donated by area restaurants.
